Lyrics: Twisted CD

Cell Phone Song (Lori Bonati) -- Who knew cell phones could be this smart?

Last night at the stroke of midnight, my boyfriend said he needed a loan

So I jumped out of bed, said my battery’s dead, I gotta go plug in my phone

Then my landlord came knockin’ this morning, said you haven’t paid rent since last fall

I said I’d love to hear it, I’ll be here in spirit but I’ve got to answer this call

Oh, I hide behind my cell phone

I’ve found it’s the perfect excuse

If it’s awkward at all, I say I’ve got a call

It’s so easy to cut people loose

Yeah, I’m never without my cell phone

            Take it wherever I go

‘Cuz if I get stuck in a weird situation

I can always put people on hold

This cop pulled me over for driving the wrong way on a one-way street

I said sir, I’d love to chat, and I’m sorry ‘bout that, but right now I’m getting a beep

Last year I was hit with an audit, Uncle Sam said I owed him some tax

So I reached in my pocket, took my phone out, unlocked it, and set my ring tone to the max

Oh, I hide behind my cell phone

I’ve found it’s the perfect excuse

If it’s awkward at all, I say I’ve got a call

It’s so easy to cut people loose

Yeah, I’m never without my cell phone

            Take it wherever I go

‘Cuz if I get stuck in a weird situation

I can always put people on hold

Well, my boss called me into his office, said he wasn’t too fond of my work

So I pulled out my cell, made it ring like a bell and just blocked out the sound of that jerk

Then one day he gave me some bad news, he was laying us off, I was next

But I played it real cool, and said “Beat it, you fool, I’m getting an emergency text!”

My neighbor was moving to Dallas, he wanted to borrow my truck

I said I’d have to think, then I made my phone blink, and said U-Haul was calling, what luck!

And that judge on American Idol declared that my singing was flat

So I said I’d make a switch and raise up my pitch, ‘cuz my phone’s got an app for that

Oh, I never leave home without my cell phone, it comes in real handy at times

If you twist my arm, I can set the alarm and distract you with fancy ring chimes

Yeah, all of my best friends have cell phones, we talk to each other all day

We don’t have to meet, or get out of our seat, it’s really much better that way

More Than Luck (Lori Bonati) -- inspired by those who build schools and fight for women's rights around the world.

I want some luck in my life

Another roll of the dice

A silhouette in the night

The shape of things to come

I want some luck in my life

A big roulette I can ride

But it’s gonna take more than luck to carry on

I want to find a new plan

A chance to change what I can

These cards in my hand

Well, I’ve played ‘em all before

Can’t say the dealer’s to blame

Just got to start a new game

With just a little luck, and maybe more

Well, luck is like a river with somewhere else to go

It never stops to look my way or even say hello

And I’ve been like a pebble at the bottom of the sea

Waitin’ for a wave to come along and notice me

I want to dry up these tears

Break free of my fears

I’ve been waitin’ for years

To hold my head up high

I want to dry up these tears

Blue skies to appear

And I’m hoping for more than luck to arrive

Well, luck is like a shadow disappearin’ in the sun

I can never catch it, no matter how fast I run

But freedom is a pair of shoes I’ve never worn before

Maybe if I try ‘em on I’ll find the open door

I want some luck in my life

Another roll of the dice

A silhouette in the night

The shape of things to come

I want some luck in my life

A big roulette I can ride

But it’s gonna take more than luck to carry on

Yeah, it’s gonna take more than luck to carry on

Gonna take a lot more than luck, to carry on

La Llorona (Traditional) -- an old Mexican folk story/song recorded by Lila Downs, Joan Baez, Santa Cruz River Band, and others.

Si mueres, muero contigo, Llorona, si vives, te sigo amando

Si mueres, muero contigo, Llorona, si vives, te sigo amando

Chinese Guitar (Lori Bonati) -- written the night after a visit to Tucson's Folk Shop and being shown a guitar made in China.

He played a Chinese guitar while he serenaded

He smoked a Cuban cigar as the sunlight faded

He was a radio star, much appreciated

By the people who fell under the spell of his Chinese guitar

His voice romantic and deep was unlike any other

It made wicked men weep and turned friends into lovers

It put babies to sleep

And woke the dead from their slumbers

But the magic, he knew, was primarily due to his Chinese guitar

Oh that guitar with the shape of a woman

It had a sound that would mesmerize

And you’d think it was the ancestors calling

Just one chord, you’d be hypnotized

He grabbed his Chinese guitar and a Russian reporter

Then they jumped in his car, headed straight for the border

No, it wasn’t too far, just a mile and a quarter

They communed with the trees, the birds and the bees

And his Chinese guitar

Oh, he sang from the heart and his voice didn’t waver

You bet she never forgot all the kisses he gave her

And his strumming was shot with international flavor

But when the sun went down, he slipped out of town

With his Chinese guitar

Oh that guitar with the shape of a woman

It had a sound that would mesmerize

And you’d think it was the ancestors calling

Just one chord, you’d be hypnotized

Oh that guitar with the shape of a woman

It had a sound that would mesmerize

And you’d think it was the ancestors calling

Just one chord, you’d be hypnotized

Just one chord, you’d be hypnotized

         Just one chord

Sweet Sixteen (Lori Bonati) -- loosely inspired by the sweet sound of The Owls

I've been thinkin'

'Bout a January day so long ago

We were sweet sixteen

And it started to snow.

Called your number

Goin' crazy while I counted up the rings

Then you answered

And it felt like my heart had wings, I said

Let's go make snow angels

If you've got the time

I'll make an angel right beside you

You can make yours next to mine

Gone the seasons

Gone the reasons that we had to say goodbye

Found your number

And I thought I'd give us

One more try

Storm's predicted

We could go for a walk, relive the past

Grab your boots now

‘Cuz you know that this

Snow won't last

Reconnecting

Isn't always such an easy thing to do but

I'd feel warmer

Just to walk along this

Path with you, come on

       Let's go make snow angels

       Let's go make love

Let's go back and pick up the pieces

And see what the future's made of

Clocks a tickin'

And it's funny but I know that in my heart

I'm sweet sixteen and I'm ready for a

Brand new start

I'm sweet sixteen, I'm ready for a

Brand new start

This Thing (Lori Bonati) -- it's a crazy mystery where this song came from.

This thing

This thing we have between us

This thing

This crazy mystery

I don’t quite understand but I never want to end this thing

This thing

This dizzy feeling

This thing

I’ve never been here before

No, we don’t have to name it, and we sure don’t want to tame this thing

Spun me around like a hurricane

Picked me up from the pouring rain

I turned a corner but I liked the change

I’m never goin’ back to how it was before

This thing

It’s got me by the collar

This thing

It’s never gonna let me go

I’m in it really deep, but I know I want to keep this thing

Spun me around like a hurricane

Picked me up from the pouring rain

I turned a corner but I liked the change

I’m never goin’ back to how it was before

This thing

It really is surprising

This thing

I never knew how it could be

They say that love is blind

But I know that I don’t mind this thing

I know that this is real, and I always want to feel this thing

Yeah, make no mistake, I’m never gonna shake this thing!

My Name is Romeo (Lori Bonati) -- 2nd place winner in local animal shelter fundraiser contest.

My name is Romeo

Lookin' for my Juliet

Won't ya take me home

I would make a very fine pet

Been livin' on the streets long as I can remember

From January straight through to December

It's a tough life for a feline,

So I decided to make a beeline

To this lady at the shelter,

Thought my furry face would melt her

Well she took me in but she had so many others

We were one huge family of four-legged sisters and brothers

We were house trained, we were tutored,

and we all got spayed and neutered

But it wasn't enough,

I wanted love and stuff

My name is Romeo

Lookin' for my Juliet

Won't ya take me home

I would make a very fine pet

And I wouldn't be bitter, long as I had litter

And a lap to sit in, I'm an awesome kitten

You wouldn't have to walk me or take me to a park

(wouldn't have to take me to a park)

I'm quiet as a mouse and I swear I never bark

            (I don't even swear)

My meow is really neat

I pad around on little cat feet

You'll just have to excuse me,

I want someone to choose me

My name is Romeo

Lookin' for my Juliet

Won't ya take me home

I would make a very fine pet

And I wouldn't be bitter, long as I had litter

And a lap to sit in, I'm an awesome kitten

My name is Romeo

Lookin' for my Juliet

Won't ya take me home

I would make a very fine pet

And I wouldn't be bitter, long as I had litter

And a lap to sit in, I'm an awesome kitten

Soldier with a Trumpet (Lori Bonati) -- true story about Lori's dad.

A boy without a father, he learned how to survive

By singin’ songs and shinin’ shoes for nickels and dimes

One day he bought a trumpet and taught himself to play

He entertained the neighborhood with music night and day

A young man in his twenties in 1944

He couldn’t just play music while the whole world was at war

There’s a battle to be won, a country to defend

So he signed up with his buddies and off to fight they went

Sound the chime, ring the bell

Blow the bugle, and bid a fond farewell

World so vast, peace at last

Will we find it, only time will tell

But he still had his trumpet and they needed him one day

To play taps for a funeral so they ordered him to stay

While his buddies left for Normandy he played that mournful tune

One life lost, one life spared, and thousands gone too soon

Life is just a mystery, predicting it’s in vain

You never know when it’s your turn to play your last refrain

But that soldier with a trumpet lived to tell his wife

About the day a funeral might just have saved his life

Sound the chime, ring the bell

Blow the bugle, and bid a fond farewell

World so vast, peace at last

Will we find it, only time will tell

World so vast, peace at last

Though you’re gone now, your story I will tell
